HAPPY BIRTHDAY THIS BLOG!
I started this bog a year ago. It has been reasonably successful (over 10,000 visitors) and a lot of fun..
some tips about starting your blog:
Starting a blog is one of the simplest ways to join the online community. Follow these tips to ensure your blog is positioned for success.
1. Define Your Goals
Before you start a new blog, it's essential that you define your goals for it. Your blog has a greater chance of success if you know from the beginning what you hope to accomplish with it. Are you trying to establish yourself as an expert in your field? Are you trying to promote your business? Are you simply blogging for fun and to share your ideas and opinions? Your short and long term goals for your blog are dependent on the reason why you're starting your blog. Think ahead to what you'd like to gain from your blog in six months, one year and three years. Then design, write and market your blog to meet those goals.
2. Know Your Audience
Your blog's design and content should reflect the expectations of your audience. For example, if your intended audience is teenagers, the design and content would be quite different than a blog targeted to corporate professionals. Your audience will have inherent expectations for your blog. Don't confuse them but rather meet and exceed those expectations to gain reader loyalty.
3. Be Consistent
Your blog is a brand. Just like popular brands such as Coke or Nike, your blog represents a specific message and image to your audience, which is your brand. Your blog's design and content should consistently communicate your blog's overall brand image and message. Being consistent allows you to meet your audience's expectations and create a secure place for them to visit again and again. That consistency will be rewarded with reader loyalty.
4. Be Persistent
A busy blog is a useful blog. Blogs that are not updated frequently are perceived by their audiences as static web pages.
happy blogging!

natural remedies for whitening teeth
Red wine, coffee and tea, and many other foods and drinks that can stain clothing, can stain teeth as well.
However, there are some foods that are natural home remedies for whitening teeth - they offer a cheap, natural way to lighten your smile.
Strawberries - Rub strawberries on your teeth to make them shine. Or, create a paste of crushed strawberries and baking soda and brush on your teeth once or twice a week, leaving the mixture on for five minutes each time. Just make sure to thoroughly clean your teeth afterwards because the sugar and acid in the strawberries can lead to tooth decay and enamel erosion if left on too long.
Orange Peel - Buff your teeth with the inside to create a brilliant shine. You can also combine ground bay leaves and dried orange peel to form a paste that you can brush onto your teeth.
Lemon Juice - Lemon juice isn't just for bleaching your hair; it can also have a whitening effect on your teeth. Just be careful not too use this method too often because the acidic nature of lemon juice can eat away at your tooth enamel. Adding a litle lemon juice to salt or baking soda is another alternative that in addition to whitening also helps clean the teeth.
Apple Cider Vinegar - Like lemon juice, apple cider vinegar can also be used to bleach the teeth. You can mix it with baking soda to make a paste to brush onto the teeth, or gargle with it daily before brushing your teeth to help remove surface stains.
Crunchy Fruits and Veggies - Apples, carrots, cauliflower, celery, pears, and other crunchy fruits and vegetables help clean the teeth and prevent stains. When the natural fibers of the fruits and vegetables combine with saliva in the mouth, they help wash away food particles and stain-causing bacteria.
But don't expect these natural teeth whitening foods to lighten your teeth right away. Patience is the key.

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang. Answering, he
heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, "Herman, I just heard on the news that
there's a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77. Please be careful!"
"Hell," said Herman, "It's not just one car. It's hundreds of them!"

saturated fats benefits
In India a study was done comparing traditional cooking oils, like coconut oil and ghee, which are rich in saturated fats, with modern oils like sunflower or safflower oils, which are mostly polyunsaturated, in relation to prevalence of heart disease and Type-II diabetes.
The study was done by the Department of Medicine, at Safdarjang Hospital in New Delhi. The study was titled “Choice of cooking oils--myths and realities”, and was published in the Journal of the Indian Medical Association in 1998. They found that while saturated fats were portrayed as unhealthy in favor of newer polyunsaturated vegetable oils, heart disease and diabetes had actually increased when consumption of the traditional oils, like coconut oil and ghee, decreased.
Weight gain typically is associated with heart disease and diabetes. They concluded that these newer "heart-friendly" oils like sunflower or safflower oils possess an undesirable Omega 6 fatty acid ratio to Omega 3 fatty acids, and that there are numerous research data now available to indicate that the sole use or excess intake of these newer vegetable oils are actually detrimental to health.
Research now shows that cholesterol levels in food have little or no effect on blood cholesterol levels, and the whole lipid theory of heart disease has been rejected by many researchers and doctors. Malcom Kendrick M.D., Dr. Mary Enig Ph.D., Uffe Ravnskov M.D., Ph.D (author of The Cholesterol Myths), George Mann M.D., Sc.D, and many other top researchers have written extensively on the flaws of the “cholesterol theory” of heart disease

Lower cholesterol means higher death rate
Yet another study defies the unscientific notion that cholesterol is bad for you.
This study shows that lower cholesterol levels result in increased death rates.
A study of more than 3,500 Japanese-American men over the age of 70 found a steadily
increasing death rate from all causes when cholesterol levels drop. The death rate
for those with the highest cholesterol reading was 35% lower than for those with the
lowest readings. [Schatz IJ. Cholesterol and all-cause mortality in elderly people
from the Honolulu Heart Program: a cohort study. Lancet. 2001;358(9279):351-355.]
So enjoy the fat - eggs, cheese, butter, cream, schmaltz, etc. - it's good for you.
Avoid pasteurized foods, hydrogenated oils, margarine and commercial foods that have
trans-fats.

apple cider vinager - for acid reflux
Acid reflux is usually treated with antacids, but some people complain that it only makes the situation worse. If you use antacids, the body will only produce more acids to compensate the decrease in body acids.
Apple cider vinegar is preferred by people who want a natural way to cure their acid reflux. Going back to natural medicines is helpful, but it requires patience and time. Natural remedies take some time before you can actually see the effects or results.
A bottle of apple cider vinegar costs between three to four pounds. It's even cheaper than buying antacids. The best possible cure for acid reflux is just in your kitchen. But if you can't find one in your kitchen, look for it in the supermarket.
Here is the dosage of drinking apple cider vinegar: two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (ACV) diluted in water at least thrice a day.

can cottage cheese and flax seed cure cancer?
This looks interesting:
THE BUDWIG FLAX OIL DIET
The Flaxseed (Linseed) oil diet was originally proposed by Dr. Johanna Budwig, a german biochemist and expert on fats and oils, in 1951 and recently re-examined by Dr. Dan C. Roehm M.D. FACP (Oncologist and former cardiologist) in 1990. Dr. Roehm claims: "this diet is far and away the most successful anti-cancer diet in the world".
Budwig claims that the diet is both a preventative and a curative. She says the absence of linol-acids [in the average western diet] is responsible for the production of oxydase, which induces cancer growth and is the cause of many other chronic disorders.
The beneficial oxydase ferments are destroyed by heating or boiling oils in foods, and by nitrates used for preserving meat, etc.
The theory is: the use of oxygen in the organism can be stimulated by protein compounds of sulphuric content, which make oils water-soluble and which is present in cheese, nuts, onion and leek vegetables such as leek, chive, onion and garlic, but especially cottage cheese.
Ferments of cell respiration closely connected with the highly unsaturated fatty acids, are also needed for proper oxydation. It is essential to use only unrefined, cold-pressed oils with high linolic acid content, such as linseed, sunflower, soya, poppyseed, walnut, and corn oils. Such oil should be consumed together with foods containing the right proteins otherwise the oils will have the OPPOSITE EFFECT, causing more harm than good.
The best combination is cottage cheese and linseed oil. The linseed should be freshly ground. Carbohydrates containing natural sugar, such as dates, figs, pears, apples and grapes, are also included in the diet. Honey is also beneficial. Most of the synthetic vitamin A preparations are bad because they contain oxidation products, but much carotine as provitamin A (from carrot) is consumed. Vitamin B from buttermilk, yoghurt, and natural yeast is beneficial.
A person requires daily about 4 oz. of cottage cheese mixed well with 1.5 oz. of linseed oil and 1 oz. of milk. A blender or egg beater works fine. The mixture an be sweeten with honey or otherwise flavoured naturally. Fresh fruits can be added. Every morning 2 spoonfuls of freshly ground linseed oil should be taken in luke warm buttermilk or yoghurt.
The diet is indicated for all kinds of chronic diseases, especially heart ailments (corony thrombosis), gall disorders, diabetes, arthritis, and malignancies. It improves failing hearing and sight. It is the ideal nutrient for children and infants. It is suggested that this diet be supplemented with lactic acid ferments (4).
"What she (Dr. Johanna Budwig) has demonstrated to my initial disbelief but lately, to my complete satisfaction in my practice is: CANCER IS EASILY CURABLE, the treatment is dietary/lifestyle, the response is immediate; the cancer cell is weak and vulnerable; the precise biochemical breakdown point was identified by her in 1951 and is specifically correctable, in vitro (test-tube) as well as in vivo (real)... " (Roehm, "Townsend Letter for Doctors", July

how to fight off a cold, naturally
Many nutritionists recommend that you avoid eating a lot of solid foods when you are fighting off a cold.
When you're sick, you want to cleanse. You don't want to put heavy foods into your system.
So, if not food, what should you be putting into your body, and what should you avoid?
Lemon Water
Orange juice is a well-known home remedy for fighting colds, because it is a good source of vitamin C.
However people should drink juices, but not orange juice. Orange juice is actually high in fruit sugar, which feeds viruses and weakens the immune system.
Instead, try lemon juice in hot/warm water as a replacement, because it lacks the high levels of sugar.
Green Smoothie
Another good replacement is a smoothie filled with greens such spinach and kale. Mix it with some water and berries, blend it up and you have healthy, filling alternative to that glass of OJ.
The greens have a very high amount of B vitamins, including B-12, and also have a high amunt of fiber, and that fiber helps your liver to detoxify. It really helps the person's metabolism.

Norway Bans Mercury Fillings in Teeth
Norway is officially the first country in the world to enforce a
complete ban on mercury fillings. From the beginning of this year,
dentists have been told they must start to use safer alternatives as a
matter of law. Mercury has also been banned from all products,
including measuring instruments.
The ban comes amid concerns that mercury in teeth and in the environment
is extremely dangerous and can be hazardous to children's development.
Norway's Minister of Environment and Development Erik Solheim announced
the ban and said: "Mercury is among the most dangerous environmental
toxins. Satisfactory alternatives to mercury in products are available,
and it is therefore fitting to introduce a ban."
Let's hope it doesn't take too long for the UK to follow suit with a ban
on one of the most toxic substances known to man.

more info on green smoothies
Green smoothies, as apposed to juices, are a complete food because they still have fiber.
Green smoothies belong to the most palatable dishes for all humans of all ages. With a ratio of fruits to veggies as 60:40 the fruit taste dominates the flavor, yet at the same time the green vegetables balance out the sweetness of the fruit, adding nice zest to it. Green smoothies are simply the best tasting dishes for the majority of adults and children. I always make extra smoothie and offer it to my friends and customers. Some of them eat a standard American diet. They all finished their big cup of green smoothies with complements. They were quite surprised that something so green could taste so nice and sweet.
By consuming two or three cups of green smoothies daily you will consume enough of greens for the day to nourish your body, and they will be well assimilated. Many people do not consume enough of greens, even those who stay on a raw food diet. The molecule of chlorophyll has only one atom that makes it different from a molecule of human blood. According to teachings of Dr. Ann Wigmore, to consume chlorophyll is like receiving a healthy blood transfusion.
Green smoothies are easy to make, and quick to clean up after. Many people told me that they do not consume green juices on a regular basis because it is time consuming to prepare green juices and clean the equipment after juicing, or to drive to the juice bar.
Green smoothies are perfect food for children of all ages, including babies of six or more months old when introducing new food to them after mother's milk. Of course you have to be careful and slowly increase the amount of smoothies to avoid food allergies.
When you consume your greens in the form of green smoothies, you can greatly reduce the consumption of oils and salt in your diet.

greeeen smooothies
Dr Ann Wigmore invented Green Smoothies in 1988 when traveling in Europe. She called them Energy Soup.
Dr Ann spoke of an instant surge in energy and brain focus with her first Green Smoothie. Wow, more energy and clarity when she was already buzzing from 25 years of raw foods – the higher you go, the higher you go!
Green Smoothies are easy to digest. A blender is the perfect set of teeth. It's a dream come true for your digestive enzymes. Nutrients are absorbed quickly and easily.
The fibrous greens of a Smoothie are blended into a mush. Blending by-passes all digestive problems like sore teeth, peptic ulcer, colitis, and a sick pancreas.
Green Smoothies are a complete food. With their fiber, the fruit sugars are absorbed more slowly. You don't get that blood sugar rush you can get from juicing.
Blending, rather than juicing, is the superior way to ingest greens. (Blending retains the very necessary insoluble fiber, which is essential for healing and maintenance of our elimination systems).
One pound of greens can give you your RDA of all nine essential amino acids, not to mention an abundance of vitamins and minerals.

Blending, rather than juicing, is the superior way to ingest greens. (Blending retains the very necessary insoluble fiber, which is essential for healing and maintenance of our elimination systems).
One pound of greens can give you your RDA of all nine essential amino acids, not to mention an abundance of vitamins and minerals.
erectile dysfunction cured by....exercise!
Visit a health food store or pharmacy and you’ll see numerous products claiming to be “all natural” remedies for erectile dysfunction, or ED. In contrast to the three oral medications currently approved for the treatment of ED (Viagra, Levitra and Cialis), none of these supplements has been proven effective and safe in well-designed studies.
One all-natural remedy that has passed scientific scrutiny in several small studies is rarely mentioned and virtually unknown. A book describing it is available, but has not become a best seller.
You may have guessed by now that this remedy requires some effort — exercise — on the part of the patient and is so readily available that there is little chance anyone can make huge profits selling it. One study found, however, that results in terms of the percentage of men reporting benefits were comparable to those with Viagra.
Any exercise is generally good for erectile dysfunction because it improves blood circulation and cholesterol, crucial to both sexual and cardiovascular health. Data from the large Health Professionals Follow-Up Study found that men who exercised vigorously at least three hours a week had a 30 percent lower risk of erectile dysfunction compared to men who rarely or never exercised.
Athletes can get ED
Well-trained athletes can and do get erectile dysfunction, of course, as the advertisements imply. Doctors know that nerves, hormones, medications, stress, depression and relationship issues can contribute to erectile dysfunction. Diabetes and prostate surgery are frequent causes.
Erectile dysfunction has been reported in long-distance cyclists, and some doctors believe that this may be due to constriction and damage of nerves and blood vessels in the lower pelvis from the bicycle seat. In studies on cyclists, doctor Frank Sommer, a German physician with dual specialties in urology and sports medicine, found that circulation in the penis was greatly decreased when the rider was seated on the saddle, but not when he was standing or cycling on a recumbent bicycle.
Out of these studies, Dr. Sommer developed an exercise program targeted specifically at improving blood flow into the penis and in the area of the pelvis, buttocks and upper leg muscles. In his book, “VigorRobics: Increased Potency through Specific Fitness Training,” he describes specific routines, including various versions of pelvic tilts, squats and leg lifts.
A study at Cologne University in Germany found that 80 percent of subjects following this kind of exercise program reported better erections compared to only 18 percent of subjects in a control group.
Many of these exercises involve the muscles of the pelvic floor, particularly the ischiocavernosus, or IC, and bulbospongiosis, or BS, muscles, located in the perineum, the area between the scrotum and the anus. These muscles become activated during sexual excitement, contracting and closing off the veins leading blood flow out of the penis, thereby causing the buildup of pressure that results in a firm erection. Men who get only partial erections or erections that fade quickly are most likely to benefit from exercises that strengthen these pelvic floor muscles.
The IC and BS muscles also are involved in propelling semen down the urethra during ejaculation, and they play a role in urinary and fecal continence.
As with all muscles, pelvic floor muscles benefit from regular exercise and can become weak because of aging, a sedentary lifestyle, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, liver disease or nerve problems.
Several studies during the past several years have demonstrated the effectiveness of pelvic floor muscle exercises in improving erectile dysfunction. In addition to physiotherapy, some of these studies use biofeedback, and electrical stimulation to help subjects become more aware of these muscles and how they are functioning.
In a recent British study of 55 men with erectile dysfunction, one group of subjects performed five weekly sessions of pelvic floor muscle exercises plus daily home workouts while a control group received lifestyle advice about diet, weight loss, smoking and alcohol moderation.
Researchers pointed out that results were similar to those of a large 1998 study of Viagra. Forty percent of the men doing the pelvic floor exercise regained normal erectile function and 35 percent showed significant improvement. As a bonus, subjects who previously suffered from a small leakage after urination — known as post-voiding drop — reported dramatic improvement in that as well.
The 25 percent who didn’t respond had other medical conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease or alcohol abuse. Older men and those taking high blood pressure medication generally did not do as well as other subjects. Other studies have found that subjects with ED associated with psychological causes such as anxiety, depression or relationship issues do not respond to this kind of therapy.
Kegels for men
Exercises include Kegels, which are often recommended for women after child birth or as a treatment for urinary incontinence. These involve tightening the pelvic floor muscles, holding for a slow three count and the relaxing.
For example:
• While standing with knees slightly bent, pretend you are holding a coin between the muscles of your buttocks and grip it tightly.
• While seated, imagine you are sitting on a pillow filled with rice and try to suck the grains upwards with the bottom of your pelvis.
• With penis erect, cover it with a wash cloth and try to raise the cloth in the direction of your belly.
• With penis flaccid, try to lift the scrotum and retract the penis by contracting the muscles.
• Use the muscles to stimulate stopping urination and then starting again.
The exercises should be performed as many as 90 times a day, and at least three to four weeks are required to have an affect. The exercises can be done, however, while you are doing other things such as sitting at your desk, washing dishes or standing in line at the grocery store. Most subjects reported the return of a morning erection a few weeks before gaining an erection sufficient for intercourse.
It’s still too early to make major claims about “potency” exercises. Although results have been positive, the studies were small. And with erectile dysfunction, there’s a placebo response of 25 to 40 percent to just about anything.
The treatment is free, non-invasive and carries no risk. The erection is spontaneous, and reports claim that the complete sexual experience is enhanced. As an initial treatment, either with or without oral medications, it may be a good choice.

more on mercury
from www.tuberose.com/mercury.html :
"The most devastating effect of mercury in the nervous system is that it interferes with energy production inside each cell. Nerve cells are impaired in their ability to detoxify and nurture themselves. The cell becomes toxic and dies, or lives in a state of chronic malnutrition. It is common for heavy metals to migrate to and acumulate in nerve ganglia (nerve relay stations). As a heavy metal (which means heavier than water), mercury tends to accumulate in the lowest parts of the body, such as the floor of the mouth, the pelvic floor, and the feet. Pelvic symptoms, in both men and women, are very commonly caused by metal toxicity of the Frankenhauser's ganglion. This can account for premature ejaculaton and an enlarged prostate in men, and endometriosis, pelvic pain, and hormonal dysfunction in women. Neural therapy cleans up this area through the painless injection of the Frankenhauser's ganglion (just above the pubic bone) with a local anesthetic. This opens up most of the ionic channels in the cell wall; the cell is then able to excrete much of its toxic components. This spurs the body to dump large amounts of mercury into the urine".
ps. it appears that fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) will get rid of mercury and other heavy metals from the body (see http://home.earthlink.net/~jedcline/cilantro.html )

murcury amalgam
The dangers of having mercury ('silver') dental fillings according to Dr Boyd Haley, Professor of Medicinal Biochemistry, University of Kentucky:
"If you have something that's been put in your mouth that you can't dispose of in a waste basket without breaking environmental protection laws, there's no point in keeping it around, there's no point in taking that type of risk - there's no point in exposing people to any level of mercury toxicity if you don't have to...... .....there is no doubt in my mind that low levels of mercury present in the brain could cause normal cell death, and this could lead to dementia which would be similar to Alzheimer's disease.... We can't go inside a living human being and look at their brain, so we have to work outside, and do scientific experiments such as we've done. And to the best that we can determine with these experiments, mercury is a time-bomb in the brain, waiting to have an effect. If it's not bothering someone when they're young, especially when they age it can turn into something quite disastrous."
