latex in fruit and vegetables, omega 3,6, etc

Between 1950 and 1999 nutrients in garden crops
decreased for protein, calcium, phosphorus, Riboflavin
and Vitamin C. Dry eye syndrome in women increases
when omega 6 intake is more than 6 times omega 3.
Latex exposure comes from inhaled auto tires, but
immune system is depressed by eating foods laden
with naturally occurring latex. Nutrient changes
needed as we age are to avoid latex in food, decrease
gluten and omega 6, and replace nutrients not in the
food supply.
Western diets have a net acid load causing metabolic
acidosis that worsens with age as kidney functions
decline. Western diets are also low in B-vitamin and
Thiamine.
Helpful nutrients: Centrum Silver reverses cataracts,
omega 3 fish oil reverses dry eye syndrome, and 80
mg. of zinc oxide lowers mortality.
Western diets contain excess saturated and trans fatty
acids. After 3.5 years taking 850 mg/day omega 3,
subjects with pre-existing cardiovascular disease
reported a 20 percent reduction in mortality, a 45
percent reduction in sudden death, and prevented
many inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
The latex chemical problem has increased because
latex is trapped in the plant when picked green to ship,
then latex becomes injury protein when plant or fruit is
treated with ethylene gas as is done in all grocery
warehouses. Symptoms are stiffness, fatigue, aches,
redness on chin, cheeks, ears, and forehead and
burning eyes. Dried, frozen, and canned foods have
less latex.

artificial sweeteners shock horror

Artificial Sweeteners

Most artificial sweeteners are artificially produced chemicals whose metabolism strains the liver, the most important organ for detoxification. Artificial sweeteners also confuse the brain. The enzymes in your mouth begin a cascade that primes your cell receptors for an insulin surge, and when it doesn’t arrive the brain feels cheated and craves more sweets.

Almost all of the independent research on artificial sweeteners, from saccharine to aspartame, show toxicity in animal studies.

Sucralose (Splenda) is simply chlorinated sugar; a chlorocarbon, a group of substances known to be poisonous. In test animals Splenda produced a myriad of toxic effects including enlarged, damaged livers and calcification of the kidneys.

The most controversial of the lot is Aspartame, sold by the Searle pharmaceutical company under the name Nutrasweet. It has a long history of toxicity in animal studies and was repeatedly denied approval by the FDA since the 1960s. A 1980 FDA Board of Inquiry, comprised of three independent scientists, confirmed that it "might induce brain tumors." The substance was only allowed on the market in 1981 after political interference in the FDA on behalf of Searle. Aspartame contains the excitotoxin aspartate as 40% of its molecular structure, and many health activists have proposed a link to early onset Parkinson's disease. Its metabolism produces methanol (wood alcohol), a toxin to the liver and nervous system. The methanol is further metabolized to produce formaldehyde, a neurotoxin which causes brain damage.

Since aspartame came on the market in l981, it has accounted for more than 75 percent of the complaints reported to the FDA's Adverse Reaction Monitoring system. The most common adverse reactions attributed to aspartame include headaches, dizziness, attention difficulties, memory loss, slurred speech and vision problems, a cluster of neurological symptoms which have become so common they are actually referred to as "aspartame disease".

An attempt to ban Aspartame in New Mexico failed in 2006.
If you can't wean yourself off sweet-tasting foods, use Stevia, a completely natural substance derived from a South American herb, stevia rebuadiana. First published accounts of this herb go as far back as 1576 by Spanish physician Francisco Hernandez in his book, "Natural History of Plants of the New Spain" after Spanish conquistadors arrived on the shores of South America. Today stevia is widely used in Japan, South America, China, Germany, Korea and Israel, and others. Stevias' safety has been repeatedly proven through extensive scientific testing and hundreds of years of use. Stevia actually balances blood sugar levels, and is safe for use by both diabetics. Unlike aspartame, stevia reduces the craving for sweets.

mercury in your mouth

getting interested in this because I have a lot of amalgam fillings in my teeth.

from David Saxon MD :

"The major source of mercury poisoning in the United States is dental amalgam. Dental amalgams are usually alloys composed of mercury, silver, and tin with small amounts of copper and zinc. These alloys solidify at room temperature and are used to fill in cavities, or build up tooth surfaces for restoration. Dental amalgams contain about 50% mercury, and mercury has been shown to be more toxic than lead, cadmium, and arsenic. Mercury vaporizes at room temperature. The temperature in your mouth is much higher.

Fifteen Facts about Mercury and Dental Amalgams

1. Mercury vapor is the common manner in which mercury comes out of amalgam.
2. Mercury from amalgam binds to sulphydryl groups. These exist in almost every enzymatic process in the body. Mercury from amalgam will thus have the potential of disturbing all metabolic processes.
3. Mercury vapor is absorbed directly into the brain.
4. Mercury from amalgam will result in a slow build up of mercury in body tissue.
5. Mercury crosses the blood-brain barrier.
6. Mercury is implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's Disease.
7. Mercury crosses the placenta.
8. Mercury will cause an increase in number and severity of allergies.
9. Mercury from amalgam will migrate through the tooth.
10. This rate of migration is increased if a gold crown is placed over a tooth filled with amalgam.
11. In the brain, mercury from amalgam is stored preferentially in the pituitary gland and hypothalamus.
12. Micro-mercurialism is principally characterized by neurological symptoms.
13. Mercury from amalgam may be stored in every cell in the body. Each area affected will produce its own set of symptoms.
14. Brain levels of mercury are in direct linear proportion to the number of amalgam surfaces in the mouth.
15. Dental personnel are severely effected by exposure to mercury."

so the next step is to look at removal and detox - will keep you posted ( if I have any brain cells left!)

"pain is a disease"

at Parsons Chiropractic we offer fast relief from back and neck pain so its interesting to see this article from the Times:

"Chronic pain needs to be recognised as a disease in its own right, experts say.

The hospital doctors and academics argue this would lead to more momentum for official strategies and funding to help patients.

Nearly 8m people in the UK are suffering ongoing problems with pain. But only 2% of them end up seeing specialists - and a quarter believe their doctors do not know how to treat their pain, research shows.

Prescriptions worth a total of £584m are written every year for painkillers. And pain - including back problems - is the second most common reason cited by incapacity benefit claimants for not working.

Dr Beverly Collett, a consultant in pain medicine from University Hospitals of Leicester and chairman of the Chronic Pain Policy Coalition campaign group , said: "This problem has huge ramifications for society as a whole. Pain is difficult to treat.

"Many patients are seeking reasons for what is behind the pain - but in the vast majority of cases, you can't find one. We are trying to get it taken more seriously - and there's a push, particularly in Europe, to say it is a disease in its own right."

Researchers are examining the idea that changes in the spinal cord and brain have the effect of maintaining pain in sufferers, making it an ongoing problem that can lead to depression or anxiety.

Experts believe more training would help GPs in assessing the severity of patients' pain.

Distraction

Non-medical interventions such as physiotherapy and encouraging patients to stay active can also play a role, with some work showing that distraction can help patients avoid feeling pain.

Professor Steve McMahon, from the Wolfson Centre of Age Related Diseases at King's College London, said the number of new drugs developed to treat pain in the past decade was "very small".

Another expert, Irene Tracey, Nuffield professor of anaesthetic science at Oxford University, said: "There is a cultural problem where it's thought that there is a benefit from suffering. We have to get over this. It's not acceptable for people to suffer significant pain in the 21st century."

Chia

have just come across Chia seeds - so am eating them for energy - so far so good :

Chia is an edible seed that comes from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, a member of the mint family that grows abundantly in southern Mexico. In pre-Columbian times they were a main component of the Aztec and Mayan diets and were the basic survival ration of Aztec warriors : one tablespoon was believed to sustain an individual for 24 hours. The Aztecs also used chia medicinally to stimulate saliva flow and to relieve joint pain and sore skin.

When chia seeds are submerged in water the seeds open up, often absorbing nine times their weight in water, and form a tasteless gel that helps to keep your body hydrated.

Chia gel is made up of 90% soluble fiber, which benefits the digestive track. The soluble fiber forms a wall between carbohydrates and the body, allowing a slow release into the body, giving the feeling of being full which a great way to control the appetite. This has been suggested to be very helpful for people, like diabetics, who have trouble controlling their sugar levels.

The chia seed has twice the protein of any other seed or grain and five times the calcium of milk. Chia seeds also contain boron which is a trace mineral that helps with the absorption of calcium. The essential fatty acids, Omega 3 and Omega 6 are also present in the seeds.

Incorporating chia seeds into the daily diet has shown to enhance the nutrient absorption of all foods, including nutritional supplements. It has its uses as an aid for GERD, ulcers, gastritis and irritable bowel syndrome.

Other suggested chia seeds health benefits include: assisting physical activity (endurance), added nutrition, as well as controlling weight or sugar levels.

The best way to consume chia seeds is to take them only after being soaked in water (or dry with some other liquid) so they do not absorb the fluid within your body possibly leading to dehydration. The seeds may be added to water, juice and other foods.

coconut oil - truths and lies

Heart Diseases:

There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. The saturated fats present in coconut oil are not harmful as it happens in case of other vegetables oils. It does not lead to increase in LDL levels. It also reduces the incidence of injury in arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis.

Weight Loss

Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress the pancreas, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.

Digestion

Internal use of coconut oil occurs primarily as cooking oil. Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc., that cause indigestion. Coconut oil also helps in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids

Liver: The presence of medium chain triglycerides and fatty acids helps in preventing liver diseases as they substances are easily converted into energy when they reach the liver, thus reducing work load on the liver and also preventing accumulation of fat.

Kidney: Coconut oil helps in preventing kidney and gall bladder diseases. It also helps in dissolving kidney stones.

Stress Relief: Coconut oil is very soothing and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying coconut oil to the head followed with a gentle massage helps in removing mental fatigue.

Diabetes: Coconut oil helps in controlling blood sugar, and improves the secretion of insulin. It also helps in effective utilization of blood glucose, thereby preventing and treating diabetes.

Bones: As mentioned earlier, coconut oil improves the ability of our body to absorb important minerals. These include calcium and magnesium which are necessary for development of bones. Thus coconut oil is very useful to women who are prone to osteoporosis after middle age.

Also coconut oil is often preferred by athletes and body builders and by those who are dieting. The reason behind this being that coconut oil contains lesser calories than other oils, its fat content is easily converted into energy and it does not lead to accumulation of fat in the heart and arteries. Coconut oil helps in boosting energy and endurance, and enhances the performance of athletes.

Why are We Misinformed?

In one word: economics. Beginning with a flawed study four decades ago, continuing through the 1950s, intensifying in the 1980s, and again in the 1990s, the misinformation about coconut oil has been promulgated by such economically motivated organizations as the American Soybean Association (ASA), the Corn Products Company (CPC International) and the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). They are aided by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), many of whose key personnel are recruited from and return to the vegetable oil industry. Previously, coconut oil was widely used in baked goods and fried goods until their publicity campaigns, based on erroneous information, totally discredited coconut oil and caused its nearly complete elimination from the American diet.

The studies were done to show that coconut oil, and all saturated fats, were bad for one's health because they raised serum cholesterol levels. However, these studies were done on hydrogenated coconut oil, and all hydrogenated oils produce higher serum cholesterol levels, whether they are saturated or not. Recent research shows that it is the presence of trans fatty acids that causes health problems, as they are fatty acid chains that have been altered from their original form in nature by the oil refining process.

Although many studies at the time had also shown research to the contrary, the mud stuck and by the mid 60’s the reputation of all saturated oils in America had been destroyed.

Critical modern research is starting to show that dietary changes based on the evidence presented by these early studies were at the very least premature and at worst placed the health millions of people at risk. However, time will only tell whether the greatest crime of this initiative will have been the bundling of all saturated fats, whether from meat, dairy or vegetable source together under the one label: Deadly Diet.

The travesty of this action was that one of nature’s most amazing resources, tropical oils, and especially coconut oil with all its functional, nutritional and pharmaceutical possibilities, has been lost to modern medicine for decades.

Finally, after years of denial, The FDA and CSPI are now talking about the harmful effects of trans fatty acids, evidence of which has been accumulating since the 1950s. Nonetheless, they continue to disparage coconut oil and take no effective action to limit TFAs, which already have been banned in some European countries. TFAs will finally be listed on food labels, starting in 2006 — why has it taken them so long! TFA dangers have been known for decades and continue to cause disease! News items coming from the USDA and FDA still lump TFAs with saturated fats, which are natural and do contain nutrients vital for our bodies. The current FDA Consumer's Guide to Fats was last updated in 1999 and consistently warns against (all) saturated fats, while failing to mention any harmful effects of trans fatty acids.

How effective is this brainwashing? Many of you will not believe the facts on these pages and will continue to avoid coconut oil and coconut milk out of health concerns. Despite the proven benefits. We invite you to investigate further.

2. How much coconut oil should I take ?

Researchers state that the optimal amount for an adult is between 3 and 4 tablespoons per day. This equates to the amount of medium chain fatty acids a nursing child would consume in one day from mother's milk. It is best to use coconut oil three times a day at meal times. I recommend that you begin with a smaller amount and build up to the recommended dosage if necessary.

magnesium oil

To say that magnesium is important in health and medicine is certainly an understatement. Magnesium is required for over 300 biochemical reactions in the body. Today's dietary intake is woefully deficient in this essential mineral with Western diets containing more and more processed foods and longer transport times. Not only is magnesium lost through these processes but foods rich in the mineral do not appear as often in our diets as they used to (wholegrains, nuts, seafood, dark green vegetables). The result is that normal consumption levels are only half they were 50 years ago! Magnesium Oil offers supplementation in a completely natural, safe and easily absorbable way. By applying Magnesium Oil either topically or in a soak, magnesium can be absorbed 5 times faster tan if taken orally.

  • Essential for the effective absorption of calcium, maintaining healthy teeth and bones.
  • Enhances the efficiency of the body’s immune system.
  • Eases discomfort from joint and muscle pains when applied directly.
  • Reduces muscle spasm, over-excited nerves and relaxes blood vessels.
  • Encourages dramatically improved sleeping patterns. Recommended for sufferers of Restless Leg Syndrome.
  • Essential for fundamental cellular production and storage of energy and protein synthesis (ATP)
  • Ideal for sportsmen and women to help relax muscles and keep them oxygenated, reducing damage and speeding up recovery time.
  • Helps to lower blood pressure and reduce bad cholesterol levels, enhancing heart health.

statin dangers

I hope Dan will forgive me for copying this post :

HEART ATTACK ENTREES AND SIDE ORDERS OF STROKE

by Dan Yachter on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:56am

A study found that statin drugs are associated with destroying heart muscle function. Statin use is known to be associated with heart muscle disease, muscle weakness and rhabdomyolysis, a breakdown of muscle fibers resulting in the release of muscle fiber contents into the bloodstream. For the study, myocardial function was evaluated in 28 patients. According to Green Med Info:

“There was significantly better function noted ... in the control group vs the statin group”.

Clinical Cardiology December 2009; 32(12):684-9

(resource information below from Mercola.com).

Statins Fail Miserably at Heart Attack Prevention

Lies, lies, and more lies! The JUPITER study, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2008,boasted that statin drugs could lower the risk of heart attack by 54 percent, the risk of stroke by 48 percent, the risk of needing angioplasty or bypass surgery by 46 percent, and the risk of death from all causes by 20 percent. As you might suspect, the funding for this study came from none other than Astra-Zeneca, the maker of statin drug Crestor -- and once again, we find that industry-funded claims of health benefits for highly profit-producing drugs need to be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism. Two years after the original study came out, three articles were published in the Archives of Internal Medicine refuting the claims laid down by the industry-funded JUPITER study.

One of these studies titled “Cholesterol lowering, cardiovascular diseases, and the rosuvastatin-JUPITER controversy: a critical reappraisal,” carefully reviewed the methods and the results of the JUPITER trial and concluded that the trial was flawed and the results "do not support the use of statin treatment for primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases …"In addition, a second study, a meta-analysis of 11 randomized controlled trials, found no evidence to back up the JUPITER trial claim that statins can reduce your risk of death when used as primary prevention against heart disease.

Increased Risk of Stroke, Serious Side Effects: A new study found that statin drugs actually increase your risk of having a type of stroke caused by bleeding in the brain if you've already had one before. Among such patients, the risk of a second stroke was 22 percent in those who took statins compared with 14 percent in those who did not. There are two reasons why this might happen: the drugs may either lower your cholesterol too much, to the point that it increases your risk of brain bleeding, or they may affect clotting factors in your blood, increasing the bleeding risk.

At GreenMedInfo.com you can see 71 diseases that may be associated with these drugs, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. There are actually over 900 studies showing the risks of statin drugs, which include: Cognitive loss, acidosis, sexual dysfunction, immune system depression, neuropathy, frequent fevers, increased risk of cancer, serious degenerative muscle tissue condition, anemia, cataracts, pancreatic dysfunction, liver disease.

Are You Taking a Statin for No Reason?

For certain individuals who are at very high risk of dying from a heart attack, statin drugs may be useful -- but this is only true if you have strong heart attack risk factors (NOT if you simply have "high" cholesterol levels). It is important to note that it is also not necessary for you to remain on the drug for the rest of your life. Once your cholesterol ratios have been optimized by a course of treatment on statins, you can safely go off them if you have changed your diet, started exercising, and are getting chiropractic adjustments/removing nerve interference on a regular basis.

Dr. Mercola states: “I have seen a number of people with total cholesterol levels over 250 who were actually at low risk for heart disease due to their elevated HDL levels. Conversely, I have seen many people with cholesterol levels under 200 who had a very high risk of heart disease, based on their low HDL. Further, if you take statin drugs unnecessarily, there's a good chance your cholesterol levels will become too low, which is dangerous since your body NEEDS cholesterol -- it is important in the production of cell membranes, hormones, vitamin D and bile acids that help you to digest fat. Cholesterol also helps your brain form memories and is vital to your neurological function. There is also strong evidence that having too little cholesterol INCREASES your risk for cancer, memory loss, Parkinson's disease, hormonal imbalances, stroke, depression, suicide, and violent behavior – so keeping your cholesterol high enough is important”.

breathing technique from Dr David Cohen

force all of the air out of your lungs. When you think your lungs are empty… think again; there are still AT LEAST two quarts of air left in your lungs that are dirty and in life-saving need of being replaced NOW.

Keep pushing that air out. Keep pushing. Without a doubt, no matter how empty you think your lungs are, you can find more to push out…. And if you were offered a hundred grand to push more air out of your lungs than five other contestants next to you, you’ll amaaaaaze yourself with how much exhalation you’re capable of.

OK, you’ve hit the point of being certain that there’s no more air in your lungs. Slowly, and evenly, breathe allllllll the way in now, through your nose, refilling your lungs. That’s it!!!

Just once is all you’re asked to do. Once. In an hour or so, do it again. Obviously, it’s best to do this outside, where you’re getting fresh air. Never mind all that city pollution: it’s far healthier than the air you haven’t even been breathing by virtue of the insanely shallow breaths you’ve been taking for years!! Doing it inside, however, is fine, as long as you’re not in a room filled with smoke or chemical vapors.

Engaging in proper respiration -- which simply means breathing more, breathing deeply with every breath -- INSTANTLY boosts several brain functions, and for those who actually do a full respiration ten times per day for the next 22 days? You will find that your thinking is clearer, faster, and by a powerful measure, more creative. This never fails, it works for one hundred percent of the people one hundred percent of the time. Yes, the more you breathe in and out per each lung function or lung cycle, the higher your intelligence grows.

Dr Aukerman, omega 3 and your health

Dr. Glen Aukerman at the Ohio State University Center for Integrative Medicine states that Omega-3 should be supplemented in higher ratios to Omega-6., because of the huge consumption of processed plant foods in the modern diet. Dr. Aukerman goes on to say that in order to balance the enormous amounts of Omega-6 consumed we should take large doses of fish oils(omega 3) and additional supplements of magnesium, calcium, vitamin C, B-complex and multivitamins. well it worked for the eskimos! so I am trying this myself - will keep you posted.

Chiropractic for fibromyalgia?

Interesting and comprehensive article about fibromyalgia (by a sufferer) She recommends to see a chiropractor:
"Several years ago Fibromyalgia was a disability categorized as "psychological". It's hard to understand how it feels to be told you are mentally having a problem when your body will not perform what you are asking it to do. How can that possibly be mental?
Patients were, in effect, being told it was "all in your head". Fortunately, the medical field has produced enough research to re-classify it as a true physical disability that is often paired with studies and treatments for arthritis and rheumatism. People with FMS have the additional stress and frustration in their lives of trying to explain (all the time) why today they can do almost anything and the next day they can barely get out of bed.
Depression is a frequent side-effect of FMS and who can question it? Living with a body-wide toothache-like pain constantly is something only fellow sufferers can truly understand. When we have "bad days" the pain can feel like there are hot curling irons jammed into our muscles. Can you even imagine that?
Also imagine the fatigue of your muscles being so bad that it feels like they have turned to Jell-O. And no matter how much you try to exercise your muscles never feel normal again. It's always like battling Jell-O to make your body perform.Spouses, family and others in your life have a hard time figuring out how you feel when you have FMS or chronic fatigue syndrome.

After a while the Fibromyalgic doesn't like talking about it and they sure don't care for having to make excuses (can't go to a restaurant (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), can't go hiking; horseback riding; to the fairgrounds; the park and so on - while SOMETIMES the Fibromyalgic can't be stopped!).
This is why I strongly recommend support groups where you can feel that you are not alone in this condition. There is simply no way for anyone to understand what is going on internally with the Fibromyalgic body. Because you look absolutely normal, yet you feel like you will never perform normally again. No one can see what the problem is. And since it is not such a known illness such as cancer it does not get the respect that people with cancer would get.
Many people I've counselled who have FMS also have now or have once had other problems such as herniated disks, degenerative disk disease, spontaneously fractured vertebrae or other bones, etc. that is why a Chiropractor is invaluable in treating Fibromyalgia.
FMS is NOT known to cause these problems or to be caused by these problems. It's just not rare to find such combination irregularities. FMS is often brought on (not caused by, but 'triggered' so to speak) by a trauma such as an accident/fall which causes what could be relatively minor physical pain, or major (doesn't really matter); even childbirth can 'trigger' it or any number of other things. One of the biggest factors is people who have had Mono seem to find that this is where their first symptoms start to appear.
Any illness that comes on suddenly seems to trigger Fibromyalgia if the person is genetically inclined toward this syndrome. I really feel syndrome is the wrong word for this condition it truly is a disease whether they can detect it medically or not does not matter, this condition is very real. Many people's lives are being permanently changed because of the effects of fibromyalgia. Most of all - please stop thinking that one must be in a cast, using crutches or wrapped in bandages to "really be hurting". Just because someone is not in a wheelchair or walker does not mean they are not in incredible pain. Fibromyalagia can even cripple a person like arthritis or even Multiple Sclerosis, its symptoms AND the feeling is very much the same! More and more cases are being reported of people who are becoming bedridden, having to use Walkers or wheelchairs due to Fibromyalagia. Chronic Fatigue, Depression, Chronic Pain/Myofascial Pain Syndrome are frequently found along with the FMS. It can get so bad that being hugged (a breeze!) can be painful! A cat on a lap can feel like bone grinding against bone. Your socks touching your toes can be a nightmare of pain. Your sheets and blankets touching your toes or legs can be so painful you are unable to sleep. Elastic touching you anywhere is pure hell. Imagine having even your clothes touching you your worst pain.
Here is a brief list of common symptoms of this disease:
• Chronic pain throughout the body • Burning, numbness and tingling • Tenderness when pressure is placed on or around the neck, elbows, hips, thighs and knees. • Sleep disorders • Chronic fatigue or exhaustion • Depression • Anxiety • Facial Pain • Jaw Pain (TMJ) • Memory Loss • Irritable Bowel • Tension or Migraine Headaches • High sensitivity to foods and medications (allergic type reaction). • Minimal tolerance to heat and cold • High sensitivity to bright lights and sounds • Hair Loss

Because symptoms develop gradually, this disease is often misdiagnosed. It is often diagnosed as a repetitive strain injury; sleep disorder condition, irritable bowel syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis or any other type of medical problem.
Based on the American College of Rheumatology a person is diagnosed with Fibromylagia when he or she suffers pain throughout the body for at least three months and has 11 out of 18 tender points present.
Who Is Affected?
Experts estimate that 3 million to 6 million Americans have Fibromyalgia. Of these, 80 percent are women. One of the main risk factors is being a woman between the age of 20 and 50. Another risk factor is having a rheumatic disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or Sjogren's syndrome.
Fibromyalgia also seems to run in families, so a gene may be at least partly responsible for the condition. Most people with fibromyalgia begin to notice symptoms between the ages of 20 and 40. But children and older adults may develop the condition. Women with fibromyalgia typically feel pain throughout their body.
Causes
Experts do not know what causes Fibromyalgia. There are several theories about possible causes or triggers. Inadequate sleep is a possible trigger. Another is suffering an injury or physical or emotional trauma that affects the brain, spine and nerves. Some experts believe that a viral or bacterial infection plays a part. Abnormal production of pain-related chemicals in the nervous system also contributes to the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. It's thought that any one of these factors may bring on the symptoms of Fibromyalgia in someone who is already genetically predisposed to the condition.
Treatment includes the following:
• Change in diet and nutrition• Supplements geared toward Fibromyalagia• Exercise: Gentle stretching such as warm water stretches and light aerobic activity, if possible.• Physical Therapy under the guidance of a Chiropractor or Naturopathic• Massage Therapy • Avoidance of activities that over stress the body (Consider keeping a journal) • Regulate sleep patterns • Avoiding emotional stress
Nutrition is very important with this condition as with any serious physical condition.
Avoid caffeine products, sugar, processed foods and fried foods.
Low blood sugar (Hypoglycemia) is often a factor in causing the person with Fibromyalgia to feel fatigued. That is why a good nutrition program is very important. Whole grains, seeds, nuts, yogurt, chicken, Turkey, organic beef, eggs, natural cheese and cottage cheese should form the base of your diet. Accompanied by Appropriate vegetables and a minimum amount of fruit.
A good quality multi-vitamin is absolutely essential with this condition. It's important to replace what the body loses daily. If a person takes no other supplement but a multi-vitamin they're helping to support their body daily. Co Q 10, in soft gel form 100mg, taken three times daily can help increase the energy.
There's no definite cure for Fibromyalagia but there are certainly many alternative methods that can help you improve the quality of your life. I still find that natural medicine works best for me. I find that deep tissue massage therapy performed regularly really keeps down the pain. When I’m going through a really bad time I always get a massage. It works better than any medicine. Physical therapy that is performed at home is very important for Fibromyalgia. Warm water stretches performed at least three times weekly can be of tremendous help keeping the joints and muscles flexible. A Jacuzzi or hot tub is without a doubt one of the best treatments you can do at home, not only does it improve circulation you can also perform warm water stretches in it. If you have access to one and can use this daily you would see a tremendous change in the body. Using a moist heating pad on areas of pain for 20 minutes can ease the pain. I also find that chiropractic care can bring tremendous relief.
I always recommend people with Fibromyalgia seek out a Chiropractor who uses the activator method for physical therapy and pain relief. "
Thats interesting as I am an activator chiropractic practitioner and now use the arthrostim adjusting intrument with KST (Koren Specific Technique). I see many fibromyalgia sufferers at Parsons Chiropractic in Leyland, Lancashire. see http://www.parsons-chiro.co.uk/ (01772 431133) and at Feel Good Clinic, Ormskirk (01695 581529)

magnesium oil

i have been using magnesium oil as a result of reading this interview:

The Fountain of Youth
An Interview with C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D.
C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., is one of the world's leading experts in pain management and his researchhas led to several patented techniques for pain relief. He is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicineand a well-known author and lecturer. Since retiring from private practice in 1999, Dr. Shealy has devoted histime to research.

AIM: Dr. Shealy, you believe that there is really one cause of disease. Could you elaborate on this?
Shealy: In 1971, when I started concentrating on pain, I realized that I was not dealing with pain. I was dealingwith stress. All illness is the result of stress. Most of us think of emotional stress -- anger, frustration, and so on -but there are really four types of stress -- emotional stress, physical stress, chemical stress, and electromagneticstress. All of these affect our bodies in a negative way.
AIM: Could you elaborate?
: Let's take electromagnetic stress. First, the brain does not deal with this type of stress very well. We knowthat when the brain is exposed to very little of this type of stress, the incidences of brain cancer double. It is estimatedthat there are 230 million times as many radio waves now as 70 years ago, and at the same time, brain cancer is theonly cancer that has markedly increased in the past 20 years. I believe that this may be because of our exposure toelectromagnetic stress.Or, let's take chemical stress. When we smoke, we are putting stress on the chemical makeup of the body. And,of course, smoking a pack a day reduces a life span by some seven years. And the stress of flying --did you knowthat slying for six to seven straight hours produces the same amount of chemical stress as smoking 200 cigarettes? We can also look at physical stress. Now this is interesting. Physical stress can be inactivity -- if you stay in bedfor a week, you produce about the amount of stress on the body as breaking your leg! So, couch potatoes aresubjecting their bodies to physical stress. And obesity - if you are 30 percent above your ideal weight, it's likesmoking three packs of cigarettes per day. Also important is the fact that stress if cumulative. If you drink two ounces of alchol a day, you may not have a stressreaction, but if you drink a quart a week, you do. Or if you take a few puffs on a cigarette, or a few teaspoons of sugar,or one-third of a cup of coffee, you will not set off a stress reaction. But if you take a couple of puffs, plus two teaspoonsof sugar, plus the coffee, you get a stress reaction.

AIM: What does this cumulative stress mean to us?
Shealy: To make a jump ahead here, what I found is that a magnesium deficiency and, subsequent to that, low levels ofthe hormone DHEA are the major physiological principles of stress-induced illness. And, as I said, all illness isstress-induced. So, these two substances, the mineral magnesium and the hormone DHEA, are integral in safeguardingour health. A lack of these could well be the source of disease.

AIM: Could you give us more information on these substances?
Shealy: Nearly everyone is deficient in magnesium, and it is a critical mineral. Magnesium is involved in more than 300essential enzymes in the body. It regulates the electrical charge of our cells, and if the charge is not normal, our cells arehyperexcitable. A hyperexcitable cell causes agitation, frustration, depression -- stress. It also weakens our immunesystems.Magnesium deficiency is seen in all major diseases, and higher levels of magnesium often have a major impact onrecovery. For example, if you are given a shot of magnesium after having a heart attack, it improves our chances ofrecovery by 50 percent.DHEA is a hormone, and such a common hormone that it is largely ignored. I saw that by the age of 80, we only have10 percent of the DHEA we had at age 30. I also saw that, like magnesium, low levels of DHEA are associated withalmost every known disease. In fact, the only known diseases associated with normal levels of DHEA are schizo-phrenia and acute alcoholism.
AIM: Is there any way you can raise magnesium and DHEA levels?
: I have experimented with this. You can take supplements of DHEA, but this can be dangerous. Your DHEA levelsmust be low. If they are not, direct supplementation may increase certain cancers. But if you stimulate your body toincrease DHEA, you avoid this risk. I found that natural progesterone can raise DHEA somewhat, as can certain typesof acupuncture. As far as magnesium goes, I injected it because when you use it orally, very little is absorbed. It can speed uptransit time, but the magnesium must be in your intestinal tract for 12 hours to be absorbed. As well, calcium, phosphorus, fat, and protein all block its absorption. But even giving shots raised the intracellular levels very little.
AIM: So there is really no good way to increase levels of these two substances?
Shealy: You can do it, but not too much. But then something happened. I met a man, Jim Carter, who told me he washelping people by having them soak in a liquid. I was skeptical of this, but when I saw the results, I felt there had to besomething behind it. I thought perhaps that it must raise DHEA levels.
AIM: Were you able to test this idea?
Shealy: Yes, I had some of my students use two ounces in a daily bath for three months. They loved it! They foundnew energy and a sense of well-being. But, when I measured their DHEA levels, it was actually lower. I have to say Iwas disappointed. But I kept using it, varying amounts, and I soon found that it did increase DHEA levels. I believe itinitially decreased them because of an initial detoxification period.
AIM: So this was an "a-ha"?
Shealy: Yes, but I still had questions. This liquic also seemed to provide some benefits in a wide range of problems, such as high blood pressure, and I couldn't understand why. Then it hit me. It has magnesium in it. Everyone is lowin magnesium. Maybe the magnesium would provide results; but was the magnesium getting through? We did moe tests and found that after four weeks, three out of four users had higher intracellular magnesium levels. This was why virtually everybody found benefits. Everyone is magnesium-deficient, so providing magnesium is goingto help everyone. I also believe that the magnesium acts as a catalyst to stimulate DHEA production.
AIM: So soaking in this liquid resotres magnesium? Water does not penetrate the skin, so how is the magnesiumgetting into the body?
Shealy: Now you've really hit the "a-ha". This liquid has unique properties. It acts like an oil, and has an oily feel, butit also mixes with water. It appears that the molecular structure has been changed. The only thing I can think is thatthis water's unique properties allow it to be absorbed through the skin and it brings the mineral with it. It sounds odd,but my tests show that soaking in this does raise intracellular magnesium and DHEA levels.

healing codes you can use

Alex Loyd and Ben Johnson wrote a book called The Healing Code. In this book they reveal twelve "Issues of the heart". These issues of the heart are created through corrupt cellular memory. Every cell in the body records every event that happens and stores these as images. These corrupt cellular memories change the physiology of the body at a subconscious level, and these physiological changes create disease and prevent healing. I encourage you to get the book and see how these issues of the heart develop and how they are related to health and disease. The healing codes were extensively researched for efficacy using the gold standard for measuring physiological stress adaptation in the body; heart rate variability studies.

here are the codes:

#1 Unforgiveness
Why do I choose to forgive myself and others unconditionally?

#2 Harmful Actions
Why do I choose to respond only out of truth and love?

#3 Wrong Beliefs
Why do I choose to believe the truth in my heart?

#4 Love vs Selfishness
Why do I choose to give and receive love unconditionally?

#5 Joy vs Sadness/Depression
Why do I feel so joyous and happy and full of life?

#6 Peace vs Anxiety/Fear
Why do I feel so peaceful and fearless and calm?

#7 Patience vs Anger/Frustration/Impatience
Why do I feel so patient and calm and relaxed?

#8 Kindness vs Rejection/Harshness
Why am I so kind and help others to feel loved and appreciated?

#9 Goodness vs Being not good enough
Why do I choose to do what is right and feel secure in myself?

#10 Trust vs Control
Why do I feel so trusting and able to release control?

#11 Humility vs Image Control
Why do I love others as they are without comparing myself to them?

#12 Self-Control vs Out of Control
Why can I embrace life with enthusiasm and still live a balanced life?

chiropractic and sports

England played Denmark last week and sitting on the Danish bench was Dr Johannes Breum, a chiropractor.
A large proportion of successful athletes have a chiropractor on their team. This is what some of them have to say about chiropractic:

“The team wasn’t just riders. It was the mechanics, masseurs, chefs, soigneurs, and doctors. But the most important man on the team may have been the chiropractor.” – Lance Armstrong, 7 time Tour de France Champion

“ …as long as I see the chiropractor, I feel like I’m one step ahead of the game.” – Tom Brady, New England Patriots ~ 3 time Superbowl Champion and 2 time Superbowl MVP

“Those are the guys that put me on the field when I didn’t think I had a chance to be on the field. These are professionals.” – Terrell Owens, NFL Wide Receiver

“I believe in chiropractic, and I know it works. You probably know about my long and successful career in football. I’m flattered by the testimonials to my durability. Football is a very rough and vigorous sport. Chiropractic was the key to keeping me in the game.” – Jerry Rice, Wide Receiver ~ 3 time Superbowl Champion and Superbowl MVP

“..lifting weights and seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis has made me a better golfer. I’ve been going to chiropractors for as long as I can remember. It’s as important to my training as practicing my swing.” – Tiger Woods ~ 14 time PGA Championship Golfer

“Without chiropractic, I wouldn’t be able to play consistently throughout the season.” – Johnny Damon, MLB Center Fielder and two time World Series Champion.

“You obviously can’t compete at your fullest if you’re not in alignment. And your body can’t heal if your back is not in alignment. Every track and field athlete that I have ever met has seen a chiropractor at one time or another. In track and field, it is absolutely essential. Chiropractic care is one of the things I think that no one has denied or refuted”

welcome - happy new year !

A few Health Principles to begin with:

Your body is a self-healing system.

You can achieve a high level of health and wellness without expensive drugs or surgery

Your body is designed to self regulate and be healthy. We just have to remove interferences to this natural healing ability...

"When you shine a bright light in a dark corner you remove the darkness. You simply can't have light and darkness simultaneously. Similarly when you focus on health, disease dramatically disappears. Disease and health can't co-exist.
When you focus on choosing natural unprocessed foods, healthy water, air, appropriate sun exposure, keeping the body in alignment, exercise, proper rest, emotional balancing and avoidance of toxic chemicals and pollutants, you will shine the light on disease and allow health to replace it".

Chiropractic at Parsons Chiropractic
Dr Parsons has many years of experience adjusting all ages for all types of spinal and structural problems. Dr Parsons utilizes the Koren Specific Technique, a low force directional adjusting protocol. In simpler terms it means there are no heavy manipulations, no ‘cracking sounds’ and no discomfort whatsoever. This new method is ideal to work with all ages, from newborns to the elderly, even people with Osteoporosis or other degenerative spinal conditions. The key to successful use of the KST method is the Arthrostim adjusting tool. This hand held device delivers precise low force adjustments with a frequency of 12-14 light taps per second. Dr Parsons has been getting fantastic results working with patients with all types of different conditions using a very light, very safe and most importantly a very effective technique.

Conditions that respond well;
• All types of back and neck pain respond well. There is no rotation or ‘cracking’ of the neck
• Shoulder pain and arm pain respond very well
• Sciatica (leg pain)
• Headache, dizziness, sinus congestion, brain ‘fog’ and any other conditions that are caused by misalignments or restrictions in the cranial bones (the bones of the skull)
• Hump patterns at the base of the neck.
The hump pattern is extremely unhealthy, it is a lump of restricted swollen muscles and vertebrae, it is not only unsightly but can lead to health problems ranging from heart problems to breathing conditions.
• Fatigue
• Sleeplessness
• Some childhood health problems
• Some health problems in infants

It is also important to point out that getting regular chiropractic care does not just treat disorders and illnesses, regular chiropractic care ensures that the nervous system, the most important system in the body is working efficiently and to it’s highest potential. When the nervous system is healthy the body is healthy, natural immune system resistance is improved, digestion is more efficient and muscle is more toned and coordinated. In other words your body can be the best it can be with regular chiropractic care and chiropractic care has never been easier or more enjoyable. The Arthrostim adjusting instrument and Koren Specific Technique is truly a revolution in healing. If you live in the Preston area call 01772 431133 now

Inspirational News Year's Message from Jeffrey Smith

This is the need of the time. HUGE thinking. Life is not content anymore with mere bigness. The demand today is far greater.

Every quarter of our precious world is calling to us. So many threats to our planet, to our food, to our life. Countless species teetering. Future generations line up outside our door to see if we will answer.

We have no instruction manual, no role model or reference point in our long history to tell us what to do.

Nevertheless we say Yes! We cast aside small cramped thinking and leap into that greater role that has been waiting to serve us.

Then comes magic.

As we outstretch our arms to hold the HUGENESS of the world, we at once become held by it. As we seek to lead, we are mysteriously guided. As we draw out the depths of our energy and courage, we become lifted by a greater power, imbued with wisdom and patience.

What seemed insurmountable becomes inevitable.

What seemed oppressive becomes our honor and privilege to unwind.

And our lives, which appeared to us as mere waves, become the ocean.

It's time to THINK HUGE. Grace will follow.
