natural cures for high blood pressure

Chiropractic

Preliminary evidence suggests that people with high blood pressure who receive spinal manipulation receive a significant reduction in their blood pressure.

Mind-Body Medicine

Although the association between ongoing life stress and hypertension is complex and somewhat controversial, many believe that relaxation techniques may be helpful in alleviating feelings of stress, which is often a contributing factor to hypertension. While the results of studies investigating this relationship have been mixed, one study of older African Americans living in an urban setting found that those who participated in a transcendental meditation (TM) or progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) program had a significant reduction in blood pressure compared to those who participated in a lifestyle education program. While both techniques were beneficial, TM was twice as effective as PMR.

testosterone and mens health

an interesting article from Al Sears MD
- includes a good simplified descripton of his pace exercise programme that I have found very useful in getting more fit:

Hey guys, Do
women pay less attention to you than they used to? And for
women, Has your man been looking and acting less
manly lately?
The key to reversing
these problems can be summed up in a single word: Testosterone. Today,
I'll show how you can boost yours.
Testosterone peaks
around 21 and then steadily declines with age. It's what makes
you strong, smart, confident, and aggressive. It makes you a potent
and virile lover. It powers your drive to succeed.
Without it,
you're more likely to lose muscle mass, bone strength and
perhaps most importantly in terms of quality-of-life
your sex drive.
In other words,
testosterone is a man's best friend. And to stay happy and
healthy, you need to keep yours high.
And in spite of what
the medical establishment says, age-related decline in testosterone
levels is not inevitable. In fact, I just read a study that will give
you another tool to reverse the decline and regain more youthful
virility.
A new report in
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism looked
at data for 1,667 men 40 to 70 years old. They found that the biggest
factor in testosterone loss was... drum roll please;
weight gain.
In fact, adding 4 to
5 percent to your Body Mass Index can result in a drop in testosterone
levels equal to ten years of aging. So if you simply shed pounds and
increase muscle mass, you can turn back the
clock a decade.
I know this because
Ive seen positive results from countless male patients
Ive worked with. Ive seen the results in
myself.
You can reverse the
cruel effects of aging. And you can do so naturally and safely by
keeping your natural testosterone production high.
The secret lies in
knowing exactly what your body needs in order to regain its native
strength. Here are 4 simple steps you can take to prevent aging and
boost your virility:
Follow a
diet low in carbs and high in protein: Empty carbs
(the kind you find in bread, flour and processed foods) spike
your insulin and pack on the pounds. This sends your testosterone into
a nosedive. By over consuming protein, you tell you body that
times are good. As a result, your body will feel
its okay to start burning off your fat stores.
Eat
cruciferous vegetables: Specifically broccoli, cabbage,
asparagus and cauliflower. These contain a substance called
diindolylmethane (DIM). DIM has been proven to help the body to break
down estrogen, the feminizing hormone that robs you of your manhood.
These vegetables also contain a compound called Indole-3 Carbinol, a
precursor to DIM. They work in combination to keep estrogen levels
down.
Take
testosterone-boosting supplements: Many of these are natural,
inexpensive, and available at your local health food store. The first
is DHEA, or dehyroepiandrosterone. Its a key testosterone
precursor, produced naturally by your body. But as you get older, DHEA
levels begin to decline. Youll not only restore your
testosterone levels; youll also enjoy other benefits, including
bone strength, proper insulin balance, weight loss, and an improved
libido.
Be sure to consult
your doctor before taking DHEA. Have your levels checked;
youthful DHEA levels fall between 300 and 500 mg/dl. If you discover
your levels are low, discuss with your doctor the best supplemental
dosage and the optimum level you want to reach.
Other supplements to
consider are Yohimbine, which combats erectile dysfunction. I use 250
mg of Yohimbine extract per day with good results.
Finally, L-Dopa, a
chemical produced in your brain, also improves sexual function.
Its available in non-prescription form. Take 300 mg per day of
natural L-Dopa extract.
Exercise: This is fastest way to burn
fat and increase muscle mass. But you don't have to be a slave
to the gym to get results.
My patented ;
program is the best way I know of to build strength and shed fat.
It's based on a simple principle: progressive activity of
increased intensity (not duration) produces cardiovascular and muscle
strength over time.
You can achieve
results almost instantly by focusing on the large
muscle groups (like back and legs). Choose an exercise that's
right for you. It may be going up and down the stairs, or performing
conventional calisthenics, like squat thrusts.
The key is to build
reserve capacity in your heart and lungs. You do this by
pushing yourself past your limit and then resting. Exercise until you
feel yourself panting, then stop. Give yourself some time to recover,
and repeat the exercise.
Focus not on
duration, but intensity. This will create muscles with sudden,
explosive power, the kind of muscle that burns fat even while
you’re at rest.
Now you have the
tools you need to reverse age-related testosterone decline. To learn
more about winning strategies that preserve your manhood, check out

more on oil pulling - chronic fatigue

7/28/2007: Tara from Melbourne, Australia writes: "I began oil pulling 7 months ago and I suffered with chronic fatigue for 14 years. It cleared up that issue within a matter of days. I was confined to bed rest and had limited mobility but the oil pulling dramatically shifted things for me so much so I am now more fit and active and don't need to rest. I had been livimg this way for years and oil pulling gave me my life back. It also cleared up a skin problem I had when nothing else seemed to work. Recently, I came down with fibromyalgia and my doctor would not be prepared to treat me as it is not a "recognised illness". I was in chronic pain and was suicidal. I could barely move my tongue inside my mouth and could not walk. I was so ill, I had never experienced anything like the severity of this before. I kept oil pulling and changes occured incrementally every day until after a couple of weeks my health was back to normal. Oil pulling has changed my life and I would recommend it to anyone. It is a POWERFUL remedy."

canola oil - rape seed oil- avoid this if you can!

It's amazing to me...The more research I do, the more I see a relationship between the food we eat and fatal diseases. Canola oil is no exception. Now comes information that Canola Oil is the suspected causative agent for Scrapie, a viral disease transmitted to cattle who were fed rendered sheep infected with Scrapie. Both Scrapie and Mad Cow Disease destroy the brain's ability to function. They literally eat the brain away, causing blindness, loss of mind and erratic behaviour.

Canola oil's real name is "LEAR" oil (Low Erucic Acid Rape). it is more commonly known as "rape oil," a semi-drying oil that is used as a lubricant, fuel, soap and synthetic rubber base, and as an illuminant to give color pages in magazines their slick look. In short it is an industrial oil that does not belong in the human body. It is typically referred to in light industry as a penetrating oil. Back in the 1980's, rape oil was widely used in animal feeds in England and throughout Europe. It was banned in 1991. Since then, Scrapie in sheep has totally disappeared. While that's good for Europeans, it is bad for Americans because the problem is now ours.

Rape seed oil (Canola oil) is widely used in thousands of processed foods...with the blessings of our own government (USA). Canola oil was first developed in Canada. It's proponents claim that due to genetic engineering and irradiation, it is no longer rape oil, but "canola" (Canadian oil). They also claim it is completely safe, pointing to it's unsaturated structure and digestibility. Although, I could not verify it, it is claimed the Canadian government paid the FDA the sum of $50 million dollars to have canola oil placed on the GRAS list (Generally Recognized As Safe). However it was done, a new industry was created.

The truth is, however, that rape is the most toxic of all food oil plants. Not even insects will eat it. No wonder farmers like growing it. It turns out that rape is a member of the mustard family of plants, and is the source for the chemical agent, mustard gas, which causes blistering on skin and lungs when inhaled. Mustard Gas was banned after WWI for this very reason.

Studies of canola oil done on rats indicate many problems. Rats developed fatty degeneration of heart, kidney, adrenals and thyroid gland. When the canola oil was withdrawn from their diet, the deposits dissolved, but scar tissue remained on the organs. Why were no studies done on humans before the FDA placed it on the GRAS list? Consumed in food, Canola oil depresses the immune system, causing it to "go to sleep."

Canola oil is high in glycosides which cause health problems by blocking (inhibiting) enzyme function. It's effects are accumulative, taking years to show up. One possible effect of long term use is the destruction of the protective coating surrounding nerves called the mylin sheath. When this protective sheath is gone, our nerves short-circuit causing erratic, uncontrollable movements.

To test the industrial penetrating strength of canola oil, soak a towel in both canola oil and regular vegetable oil. Pre-treat and wash the towel in your clothes washer and compare the area the two oils occupied...you will notice an oil stain remains on the area soaked in canola oil. It is so durable, it could take several washings to completely remove. Now if this is how canola oil penetrates the fabric of a towel, what damage can it do in our body?

Because canola oil is so cheap, it is now widely used in the food industry. If you are curious, just read a few food labels the next time you are in the grocery store. A good example can be found with commercially prepared peanut butter. In order to give peanut butter it's spreadability, Jiffy, Peter Pan and Skippy brands remove ALL of the natural peanut oil and replace it with canola oil. Natural peanut butter should only have peanuts and salt listed in the ingredients. If you want to use natural peanut butter, it's available in most stores next to the canola peanut butter. Stir the contents to mix the oil and peanuts together then store in the refrigerator. The cold temperature will prevent the peanut oil from separating. Best of all, you will have eliminated at least one source of a potential food hazard. Food consumers have headaches enough, without worrying about a toxic plant oil being added to their food. The problem is you will find canola oil in bread, margarines, and all manner of processed foods. But the consumer is king. Be informed and make it a practice to read what goes into your food. Avoid using canola as a cooking oil and salad oil. It is not a healthy oil.

maasai and foot and mouth cure

John Ntimeri, an elder from the Masai nomadic African
herdsmen who regard themselves the divine owners of all the world's cattle,
has offered to travel to Britain to cure the foot-and-mouth outbreak. ``I
will come whenever you want. We have a cure for foot-and-mouth. Let us share
it,'' he said. Called oloirobi by the Masai, the disease is a common problem
treated for thousands of years with a cocktail of cow's urine and rock salt
gathered from Magadi Lake in a remote area of the Rift Valley, he said.

foot and mouth disease

With all the focus on foot and mouth disease it is worth stressing that no human has ever died of foot and mouth, indeed it isn't usually fatal to animals. The disease itself produces flu-like symptoms and is not a killer. The problem in our country is the market value of the animals. They are worth much less and have lower yields with foot and mouth. If you were to consider your animals as part of your family then killng (or 'culling') wouldn't be an option. After all you wouldn't kill your mother if she contracted flu in case she might spread the disease.

There are whole countries in the world where foot and mouth, like flu, is rampant and nothing at all is done about it. East Africa's cattle-raising Maasai people don't kill their infected cattle. For them, foot-and-mouth disease has almost become a part of everyday life -- it's so common they refer to it using the same word they use for the common cold: oloirobi. It occurs almost every rainy season with minimal loss of life.

This is the crucial difference between the strictly commercial approach to livestock and the Maasai approach, which is far more complex and incorporates both modern and traditional husbandry techniques. Because the disease occurs infrequently in Europe, the farmers' response is to quickly eliminate infection by killing the infected animals and so avoid long-term financial losses caused by public fears of tainted meat.
Modern agricultural systems are clearly extremely vulnerable to such outbreaks of disease, a fact exacerbated by liberalised trade and the relentless economic pressure on farmers.

The Maasai people, however, consider their cattle as more than simply financial assets -- a man and his herd are bound together in relationship defined by centuries of culture and survival in a harsh environment, and tempered by the changes brought about by European influences.

The Maasai have a saying, 'Meeki Lenkaina ilala-lenyana', which translates as 'An elephant is never burdened by its tusks'. In the same way, the Maasai have traditionally never been burdened by the ecosystem on which they live. Nor by the myriad diseases that are part of their world.

This doesn't mean that Maasai communities are passive in the face of illness or injury- when a Maasai cow, sheep or goat exhibits the symptoms of foot-and-mouth disease -- fever and painfully ulcerated soft tissue -- they are treated with a paste made of cattle urine, dried bark from the olchilhili tree and the leaves of the alaiskirai and oloiyapasei bushes.

The mixture is not a cure for the disease, but it helps to relieve pain and aid the recovery. After being quarantined for up to a month, the animal is returned to the field.

The funeral pyres of countless livestock darkend Britain's skies, and we could do well to ponder what we as a nation have inflicted on our domestic animals. Foot and Mouth disease and BSE are not natural disasters but come as a direct consequence of a disregard for the intimate relationships existing between soil, plant, animal and the whole of nature.

Sir Albert Howard working in India during the 1920's experienced how important healthy humus-rich soil is for plant and animal health. In his book "Farming & Gardening for Health or Disease", he showed how, through caring for livestock in the best possible way, providing them with healthy, natural food grown on the farm and without using any artificial fertilisers, his animals could be resistant to many of the prevalent diseases including Foot and Mouth. Indeed, so convinced was he of their resilience and health that he allowed his animals to come into contact with infected animals and contaminated pasture. This experiment was repeated 13 years running during which time none of his animals became infected. In his own words " This long experience of foot and mouth suggests that an important factor in the prevention of animal disease is food from humus filled soil."

According to www.biodynamic.org.co.uk the use of homeopathic Borax 30C was used with some considerable success during the 1967 outbreak. Applied as drops in the drinking water it helped prevent many farms becoming infected. Its specific action as a remedy is to encourage the excretion of poisons in sores and ulcers and strengthen the mucus forming glands. The recommendation is 5ml in drinking water trough daily for three days and then twice weekly for the duration of the outbreak.

sugar and your health

Sugar's effect on your health
(from http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/sugar.htm )
The average American consumes an astounding 2-3 pounds of sugar each week, which is not surprising considering that highly refined sugars in the forms of sucrose (table sugar), dextrose (corn sugar), and high-fructose corn syrup are being processed into so many foods such as bread, breakfast cereal, mayonnaise, peanut butter, ketchup, spaghetti sauce, and a plethora of microwave meals.
sugar

In the last 20 years, we have increased sugar consumption in the U.S. 26 pounds to 135 lbs. of sugar per person per year! Prior to the turn of this century (1887-1890), the average consumption was only 5 lbs. per person per year! Cardiovascular disease and cancer was virtually unknown in the early 1900's.

The "glycemic index" is a measure of how a given food affects blood-glucose levels, with each food being assigned a numbered rating. The lower the rating, the slower the absorption and digestion process, which provides a more gradual, healthier infusion of sugars into the bloodstream. On the other hand, a high rating means that blood-glucose levels are increased quickly, which stimulates the pancreas to secrete insulin to drop blood-sugar levels. These rapid fluctuations of blood-sugar levels are not healthy because of the stress they place on the body.

One of sugar's major drawbacks is that it raises the insulin level, which inhibits the release of growth hormones, which in turn depresses the immune system. This is not something you want to take place if you want to avoid disease.

An influx of sugar into the bloodstream upsets the body's blood-sugar balance, triggering the release of insulin, which the body uses to keep blood-sugar at a constant and safe level. Insulin also promotes the storage of fat, so that when you eat sweets high in sugar, you're making way for rapid weight gain and elevated triglyceride levels, both of which have been linked to cardiovascular disease. Complex carbohydrates tend to be absorbed more slowly, lessening the impact on blood-sugar levels.
Sugar depresses the immune system.

We have known this for decades. It was only in the 1970's that researchers found out that vitamin C was needed by white blood cells so that they could phagocytize viruses and bacteria. White blood cells require a 50 times higher concentration inside the cell as outside so they have to accumulate vitamin C.
There is something called a "phagocytic index" which tells you how rapidly a particular macrophage or lymphocyte can gobble up a virus, bacteria, or cancer cell. It was in the 1970's that Linus Pauling realized that white blood cells need a high dose of vitamin C and that is when he came up with his theory that you need high doses of vitamin Cicon to combat the common cold.
sugar and lymphocytes

We know that glucose and vitamin C have similar chemical structures, so what happens when the sugar levels go up? They compete for one another upon entering the cells. And the thing that mediates the entry of glucose into the cells is the same thing that mediates the entry of vitamin C into the cells. If there is more glucose around, there is going to be less vitamin C allowed into the cell. It doesn't take much: a blood sugar value of 120 reduces the phagocytic index by 75%. So when you eat sugar, think of your immune system slowing down to a crawl.

Here we are getting a little bit closer to the roots of disease. It doesn't matter what disease we are talking about, whether we are talking about a common cold or about cardiovascular disease, or cancer or osteoporosis, the root is always going to be at the cellular and molecular level, and more often than not insulin is going to have its hand in it, if not totally controlling it.

The health dangers which ingesting sugar on an habitual basis creates are certain. Simple sugars have been observed to aggravate asthma, move mood swings, provoke personality changes, muster mental illness, nourish nervous disorders, deliver diabetes, hurry heart disease, grow gallstones, hasten hypertension, and add arthritis.

Because refined dietary sugars lack minerals and vitamins, they must draw upon the body's micro-nutrient stores in order to be metabolized into the system. When these storehouses are depleted, metabolization of cholesterol and fatty acid is impeded, contributing to higher blood serum triglycerides, cholesterol, promoting obesity due to higher fatty acid storage around organs and in sub-cutaneous tissue folds.

Because sugar is devoid of minerals, vitamins, fiber, and has such a deteriorating effect on the endocrine system, major researchers and major health organizations (American Dietetic Association and American Diabetic Association) agree that sugar consumption in America is one of the 3 major causes of degenerative disease.

A good source of supplies for diabetics is diabeticdrugstore.com. They offer healthy eating diabetic food, hard to find sugar free candy and medical alert jewelry for diabetes care.
Honey is a simple sugar

There are 4 classes of simple sugars which are regarded by most nutritionists as "harmful" to optimal health when prolonged consumption in amounts above 15% of the carbohydrate calories are ingested: Sucrose, fructose, honey, and malts.
Some of you may be surprised to find honey here. Although honey is a natural sweetener, it is considered a refined sugar because 96% of dry matter are simple sugars: fructose, glucose and sucrose. It is little wonder that the honey bear is the only animal found in nature with a problem with tooth-decay (honey decays teeth faster than table sugar). Honey has the highest calorie content of all sugars with 65 calories/tablespoon, compared to the 48 calories/tablespoon found in table sugar. The increased calories are bound to cause increased blood serum fatty acids, as well as weight gain, on top of the risk of more cavities.
sugar and honey

Pesticides used on farm crops and residential flowers have been found in commercial honey. Honey can be fatal to an infant whose immature digestive tracts are unable to deal effectively with Botulinum Spore growth. What nutrients or enzymes raw honey does contain are destroyed by manufacturers who heat it in order to give it a clear appearance to enhance sales. If you are going to consume honey, make sure it is raw, unheated honey. Good to use in special cures, but not as an every day food. It is not much better than white or brown sugar.
Here is a list of ways sugar can affect your health:

* Sugar can suppress the immune system.
* Sugar can upset the body's mineral balance.
* Sugar can contribute to hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, concentration difficulties, and crankiness in children.
* Sugar can produce a significant rise in triglycerides.
* Sugar can cause drowsiness and decreased activity in children.
* Sugar can reduce helpful high density cholesterol (HDLs).
* Sugar can promote an elevation of harmful cholesterol (LDLs).

* Sugar may lead to chromium deficiency.
* Sugar can cause copper deficiency.
* Sugar interferes with absorption of calcium and magnesium.
* Sugar can increase fasting levels of blood glucose.
* Sugar can promote tooth decay.
* Sugar can produce an acidic stomach.
* Sugar can raise adrenaline levels in children.
* Sugar can lead to periodontal disease.
* Sugar can speed the aging process, causing wrinkles and grey hair.
* Sugar can increase total cholesterol.
* Sugar can contribute to weight gain and obesity.
* High intake of sugar increases the risk of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
* Sugar can contribute to diabetes.
* Sugar can contribute to osteoporosis.
* Sugar can cause a decrease in insulin sensitivity.
* Sugar leads to decreased glucose tolerance.
* Sugar can cause cardiovascular disease.
* Sugar can increase systolic blood pressure.

* Sugar can cause atherosclerosis.
* Sugar can compromise the lining of the capillaries.
* Sugar can cause liver cells to divide, increasing the size of the liver.
* Sugar can increase the amount of fat in the liver.
* Sugar can increase kidney size and produce pathological changes in the kidney.
* Sugar can cause depression.
* Sugar can increase the body's fluid retention.
* Sugar can cause hormonal imbalance.
* Sugar can cause hypertension.
* Sugar can cause headaches, including migraines.
* Sugar can cause an increase in delta, alpha and theta brain waves, which can alter the mind's ability to think clearly.
* Sugar can increase blood platelet adhesiveness which increases risk of blood clots and strokes.
* Sugar can increase insulin responses in those consuming high-sugar diets compared to low sugar diets.
* Sugar increases bacterial fermentation in the colon.

Sugar and cancer

Of the over 4 million cancer patients being treated in the U.S. today, almost none are offered any scientifically guided nutrition therapy other than being told to "just eat good foods." Many cancer patients would have a major improvement in their conditions if they controlled the supply of cancer's preferred fuel: GLUCOSE. By slowing the cancer's growth, patients make it possible for their immune systems to catch up to the disease. Controlling one's blood-glucose levels through diet, exercise, supplements, meditation and prescription drugs - when necessary - can be one of the most crucial components to a cancer treatment program. The saying "Sugar feeds cancer" is simple. The explanation is a little more involved.
German Otto Warburg, Ph.D., the 1931 Nobel laureate in medicine, first discovered that cancer cells have a fundamentally different energy metabolism compared to healthy cells. The gist of his Nobel thesis was this: malignant tumors frequently exhibit an increase in "anaerobic glycolysis" - a process whereby glucose is used by cancer cells as a fuel with lactic acid as an anaerobic by-product - compared to normal tissues.(1) The large amount of lactic acid produced by this fermentation of glucose from the cancer cells is then transported to the liver. This conversion of glucose to lactate creates a lower, more acidic PH in cancerous tissues as well as overall physical fatigue from lactic acid build-up.(2,3) Therefore, larger tumors tend to exhibit a more acidic PH.(4)
anaerobic glycolysis

Hence, cancer therapies should attempt to regulate blood-glucose levels through diet, supplements, exercise, medication when necessary, gradual weight loss and stress reduction. Since cancer cells derive most of their energy from anaerobic glycolysis, the goal is not to eliminate sugars or carbohydrates entirely from the diet but rather to control blood-glucose within a narrow range to help starve the cancer cells and boost immune function.

tires and the environment

'I heard recently that if everybody in the United States just kept their tires properly inflated, we'd save a hundred million barrels of oil in a year — as much as we'll produce by drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Now that kind of concept is what the Ultimate Black Belt Test is all about. It's about taking small things and, because of the amount of people doing them or because of the length of time you do them, having them turn into something that really makes a difference. Lao-tzu said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” And the modern path of the warrior is a spiritual quest that anybody can take'.

Black belt martial arts master, Callos quoted in enlightenment magazine

What Chiropractic is All About

Most people think that chiropractic is just for back pain. They think that chiropractors are “bone-crackers,” and their mentality is, “what does getting your back cracked have to do with health?” Fortunately, you know exactly what it has to do with health.

You know the importance of the nervous system. You see it everyday, although you may be hardly aware of its presence. Its what runs, regulates, and controls your entire body all day long. Its what makes your heart beat, and what makes your lungs breath. Its what digests the sandwich you had for lunch, and turns that sandwich into living, functioning cells within the body.

It's what heals the cut on your finger or the sore on your tongue. Its what controls the organs of the immune system, and therefore controls our resistance and immunity. Its the first thing to develop after the egg and sperm unite, and it orchestrates our creation into beings. It is the most important factor of a person’s health potential. The nervous system is the master controller of the body. It’s the thing that animates the living world.

All living things have a nervous system, and all die when the nervous system stops working. A human being is pronounced dead only when there is no electrical information traveling over the nervous system. A human being weighs no less, and has all of its organs, tissues and cells just minutes after death. What leaves the body is nervous energy.

The nervous system is the central axis of good health, and chiropractic restores proper function to the nervous system. Chiropractic care can help anyone become healthier. By removing interference within the nervous system, the body becomes better able to handle the everyday stresses and strains of life. That leads to better overall health.

research on nerve pressure from the spine (not back pain)

Research by Dr. Suh at the University of Colorado has shown the effect of a small amount of pressure on the nerve roots exiting the spinal column. He found that pressure equal to the weight of a dime could decrease the amount of nerve energy flowing along the nerve by as much as 60%.
Imagine a vital organ such as the heart getting only 40% of its normal nerve energy! Many conditions of ill health could be the result of long-term effects of deficient energy to the vital organs originating from spinal subluxations..so chiropractic not just for back pain!!!
